Ingleside Stud is owned and run by Korrie and Helen Kuiper, their daughter Ineke and her husband Byron Biffin.
The stud is located between Korrie and Helen’s property at Thirlmere, just outside of Sydney, and Byron and Ineke’s property near Bredbo, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.
Korrie and Helen first fell in love with horses in the 1970s after trail riding with friends. They promptly bought themselves a riding horse and ponies for their two girls Sjaan and Ineke.
After 15 years of owning light horses, Korrie decided he would like to have a draught horse “because they looked relaxing to have in the paddock”, and purchased his first Shire soon after (1990).
Ineke became interested in the draught horses in her early teens and started showing in breed, driving and harness classes with Shires and Clydesdales. Mares were bred to stallions, foals were produced, and Ingleside Stud was born.
With the interest and enthusiasm of the whole family, the stud soon grew. When Byron, an experienced horseman and successful Polocrosse player and Tentpegger, joined the team, Ingleside went from strength to strength.
Byron and Ineke lived in England for two years and spent much time visiting Shire studs and attending shows. Aside from making great friends and gaining extensive knowledge and experience with Shires, they also found Ingleside’s current stallion, Oakridge Speculator, who they purchased and brought back to Australia.
Ingleside is now one of Australia’s largest Shire studs, with an impressive show and breeding record. Aside from working with their own horses, Ingleside also offer services including breaking and training horses to ride and drive, professional showing, driving and horsemanship lessons for owners as well as lessons in show preparation and plaiting (both Shires and Clydesdales).
